Release of new Matthew David album: Sounds Like Dreaming
Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009I’m totally stoked to announce the release of my new album, Sounds Like Dreaming, featuring ten new original songs, soon to be made downloadable from theothersongs.com. The new stuff sets a new standard for my song writing and achieves a new level of sonic quality. With the help of my regular players and some new faces I have been able to create a sound that is totally new for me while keeping the hard hitting core of the older stuff while at the same time expanding into some new musical territory.
The new stuff is based on the same funky style that you hear on the GIANT album but has a deeper, more layered quality and style of recording. Some of the songs on Sounds Like Dreaming almost sound like country. I have started calling it “Funktry.” I focused on driving grooves and deep bass content, and iconic guitar sounds.
Andy Kravitz is back. A 2 tha MF K played drums on the first five tracks, “Broke Down, Come Out and Play, Sinner, Don’t Nobody,” and the instrumental, “Hold On For A Minute.” He always creates the strongest and most appropriate drum sounds. He never disappoints. The drums on “Sinner” actually sound like fireworks.
Also returning for some tracks are Bobby Strother, (aka Bobby Conga). Listen for his percussion and congas on “Don’t Nobody” and “The Final Drop” among others.
And as always, thanks to Alonso Johnson, (aka Afronaut) for lending his bass talents to several of the tracks on the new album.
Thanks for listening, Matthew David
