Finding the band

I have been looking for the players to make up the band, and I have been having some success. Art Mazur, a long time friend of mine has agreed to handle the keyboards and samples. That is good news because he has really strong technical skills and a cool sense for making music. Looking forward to putting some of his tunes on the site. Also picked up Sean McCloskey for the lead guitar spot. Sean has been known for his band Twelve Horse. Sean is a terrific guitarist, a good friend and a master of electric guitar tone.

Andy Joins The Lineup

I am pleased to announce that renowned drummer and record producer Andy Kravitz has agreed to join the band. Andy has been a cornerstone in the recording process and has played the drums on most of the songs I have, including all of the songs on the Giant cd and most of the tracks on the Sounds Like Dreaming cd. He has also worked with a who’s who of recording artists and contributed his drum and recording talents to much of the music that you hear on the radio daily. I have always known that having a rock solid drummer is the bedrock on which any great band is built. With Andy in the lineup we are off to an amazing start.

Auditioning for Members

At long last I have begun the audition process to choose band mates to play this stuff live. I hope that some of you that are reading this have seen the ads on craigslist and are considering auditioning. In addition to myself there will be drums, keyboards, bass, and a second guitar player. Vocals are a definite plus, but don’t let that discourage you. If you are interested in being a part of this project, click the link at the bottom of the page and leave me a message. Please remember to include your e-mail and phone number in the message.

Check out the Giant album on this page and see if you can hear yourself as a part of the band. The new Sounds Like Dreaming album includes ten new songs and will be presented to anyone auditioning for the band. It will also be posted on this page very soon, so bookmark the site and keep checking back to hear the new stuff. So there’s a good amount of material. Keep in mind that we will be playing my original tunes and the band will not be doing covers.

A little about how I will be choosing musicians… I believe that a song should have two lives. There’s the way you recorded it, and the way that you play it live. When I record a song I give it everything that it needs to sound as amazing as possible, I don’t limit myself to the amount of parts that can be played live. So I believe strongly that since the song will never sound exactly like it did on the record, it’s important to have a group that will make the song as strong as possible live. I will be choosing musicians based on many factors…style, personality, skills, etc.

New CD and other stuff

Sorry for the delay in posting the new record Sounds Like Dreaming to the website. We have been putting the final touches on the page and we just want everything to be right before it goes up there. But the good news is that the record is done and sounds awesome. I have been playing it around for some of my friends in radio and it has gotten some good responses.

Right now I am working on getting some videos going for these tunes. Check out the video for Cock of the Walk on youtube. I used some of the pics from a trip we took to Santa Fe in the vid. Search “COCK OF THE WALK matthew david” on youtube. We were out there cutting drums on that tune at Frogville studio. Much thanks to the Hundred Year Flood. They have to be the coolest band I have ever met. I highly recommend checking out their music. They are the real deal.
